Connect community

A community centre within a 10-minute walk

Addu City will foster vibrant, inclusive, and connected communities by creating high-quality public spaces that encourage recreation, social interaction, culture, and healthy living. Through integrated community centres, active waterfronts, attractive parks, and shaded walkable streets, every resident will have easy access to places where people can gather, exercise, learn, celebrate, and build stronger community connections. We will safeguard historical sites, traditions, language, and cultural practices. We will ensure that heritage is respected and sustained as a living part of everyday life and offer authentic, meaningful, and immersive encounters. We will showcase local traditions and stories to create memorable experiences and enable longer stays, repeat visits, and positive word-of-mouth, contributing to sustainable tourism and local economic growth.

Targets

  1. Target 6.1

    Ensure every resident lives within a 10-minute walk of a community centre by 2028.

  2. Target 6.2

    Develop a continuous 17 km waterfront promenade from Hithadhoo to Gan by 2030.

  3. Target 6.3

    Establish four themed parks by 2028.

  4. Target 6.4

    Complete streetscaping of all main roads by 2030.

  5. Target 6.5

    Increase annual visits to Addu's museums and heritage attractions to 50,000 visitors by 2030.

  6. Target 6.6

    Host at least 06 major cultural events (traditional arts, crafts, music, and cuisine) annually by 2030.
