Goal 4 of 12
Safe water sources
Renewables-powered desalination and rainwater for all
Addu will secure its long-term water supply through five diversified sources — desalination, household and community-scale rainwater harvesting, responsibly managed groundwater, reclaimed wastewater, and mineralised bottled water. Solar PV and battery storage will support reliable desalination. Expanded rainwater systems will capture and store rainfall for domestic and public use, while carefully managed groundwater will provide a dedicated supply for gardening and landscaping. Expanded sewerage networks and advanced wastewater treatment will enable reclaimed water to be used safely for agriculture, irrigation, landscaping, and other non-potable purposes. Addu will also support the local production of mineralised drinking water in reusable glass bottles and large-volume containers for homes, restaurants, hotels, offices, and other businesses.

Target 4.3
Enable whole-house water filtration in homes by 2028.
Target 4.4
Maintain or improve groundwater quality in at least 90% of Addu City's monitoring stations, with no significant increase in salinity, nitrate, or faecal contamination from the 2026 baseline.
Target 4.5
Achieve universal sewerage coverage for all households by 2028.
Target 4.6
Increase proportion of households who reuse wastewater to 25% by 2030.
